Krukoff (1898-1983) was a Russian immigrant who spent his career with Merck and Co. working with plants as sources of various drugs, including anesthetics, antimalarials, anthelmintics, and cortisone. He was a specialist on the American species of Strychnos. Between 1928 and 1955, he led numerous botanical expeditions to South America, Africa, and Sumatra to discover useful plants.
